Scores of Hispanic families flock to big savings at El Clasificado’s "Quinceañera Expo & Fashion Show"

Festive gathering helps hundreds who are planning for their special celebration

Los Angeles, CA -- October 22, 2008 -- The weak economy did not prevent hundreds of young quinceañeras and their families from flocking to El Clasificado’s Quinceañera Expo and Fashion Show on Sunday, October 19th. The attendees who poured in to the DoubleTree Hotel in Commerce, CA found more than fifty lavish displays and exhibitor booths that included discount packages on everything from limousine services, video and photography services, to makeup applications and gowns.

With 400,000 Hispanic girls turning 15 each year in the US, and thousands of quinceañera families flooding the market with $300 million every year, El Clasificado’s expo proved to be the perfect platform for families to find all of the essential products and services they need to make their fifteenth birthday celebration a truly unforgettable one.

“It is widely known that costs for the traditional Quinceañera celebration can be rather steep, and may be more difficult to accomplish given today’s economic climate,” explained Martha de la Torre, founder and CEO of El Clasificado. “Nevertheless, this is an important tradition that the Latino community cherishes, and if we can help by bringing together dozens of exhibitors offering their best services at unbeatable rates, then we’ve accomplished our mission.”

Violeta Hernandez from Downey, CA was at the expo in search of ideas for her daughter’s upcoming quinceañera celebration: “I’ve found many great services and have gained some new ideas for my daughter’s celebration, but what is really amazing is finding so many services at very modest prices,” she affirmed.

Throngs of teenage girls and their families, mostly frenzied mothers and older sisters, were also in attendance to learn the results of El Clasificado’s mobile text contest to win a quinceañera gown. More than 200 girls submitted their information via text message to El Clasificado for the chance to be the lucky winner of a beautiful quinceanera gown, valued at $1200. Five finalists were announced at the expo, and the lucky winner will be announced online at www.quinceanera.com on October 24th.

Just in time for the October Expo, El Clasificado also redesigned and re-launched Quinceanera.com, an online community where young girls can find answers to their many questions about this important celebration, as well as to share their own tips and experiences. Serving as a complement to the Quinceañera Expo and Fashion Show, the website includes a blog, quince-related videos, a shopping directory, and more. Quinceañera.com has already built a community of over 3,500 prospective quinceañeras.

El Clasificado’s Quinceañera Expo and Fashion Show also included a live dance performance to give families ideas they can incorporate into their own celebrations, live make-up applications and hair styling demonstrations, as well as a beautiful fashion show consisting of 25 unique styles provided by Paloma’s Collection. Sponsors for this event included David’s Bridal, Famsa, El Pavo Bakery, Friar Tux Shop and Super Estrella 107.1FM.

The Quinceañera Expo and Fashion Show is an event planning expo that helps to keep alive this rich cultural Hispanic tradition. Established as an annual expo in 2006, the October 19th event was actually the second expo to be held in 2008, and it marked the first time El Clasificado presented this expo as a biannual event. For each of its expos, El Clasificado also publishes a special print Quinceañera supplement that includes quince planning information such as hair and makeup tips, venue, photography and transportation guides and more. Together with this supplement and the website, the Quinceanera Expo and Fashion show is an unbeatable multi-media platform for quinceañera families nationwide.

The expo is presented by El Clasificado, a weekly Spanish-language classifieds magazine distributed to more than 200 cities across Southern California. El Clasificado is an Hispanic Business 500 company and has been recognized as a small business that helps the Latino community by ICIC-Inc Magazine, Ernst & Young, the Los Angeles Business Journal and Hispanic Business Magazine.
