WSU is seeking qualified applicants for two full-time Research Assistants to participate in execution of motor neuron animal research examining spinal cord and brain in the Neuro Engineering, Rehabilitation, & Degeneration (NERD) Laboratory. The NERD lab is interdisciplinary with studies being completed in modeling, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, motor function assessment and drug exploration in neurodegeneration to study ALS and aging. The position is dependent on external grant funding, primarily through NIH. The lab has three NIH funded Research Project Grants (R01s) that are funded through 2028. The posted position would be completing studies in immunohistochemistry, motor function and drug assessment. In addition, responsibilities would include animal colony management (25% of time), undergraduate and graduate student training (15%) and experiment execution (25%). This includes assisting students and staff with experimental procedures (25%). This requires working with a team to complete large projects demanding clear and concise communication with the team. Additionally, a willingness to be trained in or preferable experience in animal handling, tissue collection procedures, knowledge of histology and sectioning techniques is preferred. As an integral part of the lab you will be required to manage a lab notebook, complete data analysis and data management.
