Critical Climate Studies Initiative Hires in Environmental Studies St. Mary's College of Maryland is recruiting two (2), full time, tenure track assistant professors to begin August 2023 to expand our interdisciplinary academic offerings in the environment and deepen our commitment to the broad theme of critical climate studies. We are searching for highly motivated and talented faculty whose teaching and research will make foundational and transformative contributions to the development of critical climate studies at the College. The goal of the critical climate change initiative hires is to leverage the strength of our integrated, liberal arts curriculum via faculty who work across traditional research and teaching boundaries to build and support dynamic teaching, programming, and applied learning centered on just climate futures by preparing students to respond to the social and environmental dimensions of the climate crisis with ethical, evidence-based, imaginative, and effective action. A priority for these two new positions is to increase the diversity, equity, and inclusionary practices of Environmental Studies. Our interdisciplinary environmental program occupies a unique and integral role supporting an institutional context for research, teaching, and applied learning that does not fit into traditional disciplinary structures. Because effective responses to pressing social and environmental problems straddle and synthesize disciplines, we seek faculty from diverse backgrounds whose teaching and research will engage with the patterns and processes of systemic oppression of historically marginalized communities related to climate change. We are looking for colleagues that will embrace the opportunity and responsibility to support, study, and work with and/or for under-represented communities; to develop collaborations across campus and with community partners; and to prepare today's students to meet future intellectual and workforce demands related to creating and sustaining a more just social and environmental order. Our new colleagues will each teach the equivalent of 6 courses per year at the introductory and advanced levels which includes senior capstone experiences; create relevant, distinctive courses and field-study opportunities
