Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Officer at Dundalk Marine Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland. The candidate will be responsible for assisting the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration with inspection of workplaces to ensure compliance and to enforce state and federal occupational safety and health laws, regulations and standards. The candidate will also assist with preparing employee safety training and accident and incident investigations, to identify root causes. Must be able to pass a background check in order to obtain a TWIC badge and be able to pass a HAZMAT physical exam. Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate plus one year of experience in the inspection of workplaces to ensure compliance and initiate enforcement of state and federal occupational safety and health laws, regulations and standards. Additional experience in the interpretation and application of fire, health or safety regulations and the preparation of narrative reports documenting factual findings of inspections or investigations may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Thirty semester credit hours to include twelve credit hours in construction, engineering, fire, manufacturing or occupational safety and health technologies may be substituted for the required experience. Must have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points. Must have experience using MS Office software and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications: Graduate Safety Practitioner and/or Valid OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Materials Training per 29 CFR 1910.120 a plus. This position will be open until filled.
