Mechanic I – 2 nd Shift Application Deadline: Monday, May 23, 2022 Hours: Monday – Thursday , 2:00 PM - Midnight Rate of Pay: $23.6928 - $33.1700 Hourly Characteristics of the Job Under direction of the Fleet & Facilities Manager, performs skilled or semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the City's highly diversified fleet of passenger vehicles, trucks, construction and off-road equipment, and police, fire and sanitation vehicles and equipment in support of policies, goals and objectives established by department management. Examples of Duties Identify and diagnose failures or defects, maintain, and repair or replace a multitude of components on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to; passenger vehicles, sport utility vehicles, light, medium, and heavy duty trucks, mowers, tractors, motor graders, backhoes, sanitation packers and rear loaders, jetter-vacs, police vehicles, ambulances, and fire apparatus'. Perform routine preventative maintenance services on gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas, hybrid, electric and propane powered vehicles or equipment to include adjustments and replacements recommended by the original equipment manufacturer at various service intervals. Perform comprehensive vehicle inspections to identify defects or deficiencies of components needing repair, adjustment or replacement such as brake systems, tune-ups, alignments, air conditioning repairs and recharging, tires, bearing and gears, batteries and similar tasks. Assist the Mechanic II and Fleet Services Lead Technician in the utilization of original manufacturer and aftermarket diagnostic software programs to complete more complex repairs and expand existing knowledge base and skill set. Assist the Mechanic II and Fleet Services Lead Technician with vehicle and equipment conversions and installations of various types of equipment, such as electrical wiring and lighting systems, controls, radios, sirens, and hydraulic systems, pumps, and cylinders. Perform tri-weekly inspections for the central fueling facility and preventative maintenance operations of compressed natural gas generator and fueling components. Operate various shop equipment such as a hoist, tire machine, grinder, metal cutt
