University of Southern California Sol Price School of Public Policy Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis Tenure-track Faculty Position in Housing and the Built Environment Position Description and Qualifications: The University of Southern California's Sol Price School of Public Policy invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of housing and the built environment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Applicants should hold an advanced degree in urban planning or a related field. These could include, but are not limited to, public policy, sociology, urban design, geography, environmental or civil engineering, etc. Applicants encompassing a broad range of research agendas are encouraged to apply. Research projects sited domestically and globally are both welcome. This position is part of a multi-year departmental hiring strategy focused on two complementing and cross-cutting themes. 1) Data and the built environment: We seek cutting edge scholars who will lead planning's navigation of the new data, visualization, and media landscape in service of the field's core function at the nexus of human behavior, policy, and the built environment by critically evaluating and adapting new data streams. This innovation could entail novel ways of a) accessing, interpreting, and analyzing data as well as b) innovative ways to communicate, manage, and publicly engage with data. 2) We are equally focused on advancing social justice. We seek new generation scholars who articulate a concrete vision of a more just and inclusive society and actively explore effective strategies. Example research topics could include, but are not limited to, segregation and inequality, algorithmic justice, policing and criminal justice system reform, environmental justice, gentrification and displacement, etc. Related degree programs offered by the Price School include an undergraduate major in Urban Studies and Planning, a master's degree in Urban Planning, an Executive Master of Urban Planning, and a PhD degree in Urban Planning and Development.
