York General has an opening for a Health Information Management (HIM) Generalist, to include duties of both Analyst (see Analyst posting for description) and Coder . Will consider incumbents interested in Part time employment in either the Analyst or Coder position, with option of Full time by combining both roles. CODER: NATURE OF WORK: Thoroughly analyzes outpatient and/or inpatient records. Identifies all diagnoses and procedures and assigns the appropriate codes from the latest revisions of the International Classification of Diseases and Current Procedural Terminology. Work requires total accuracy and consistency, as failure to code records accurately, completely, and quickly will have a monetary impact on hospital reimbursement. Establishes regular communication with the medical staff and other hospital departments. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Analyzes patient record; identifies, verifies and assigns correct principal and secondary diagnosis and procedures and may require communication with the appropriate physician(s) or supervisor. 2. Assigns the appropriate code to each diagnosis and procedure according to the latest revision of ICD-10 and CPT codes to procedures as needed. 3. Performs the data entry function for the computer abstracts in both the encoder system and the hospital information system. 4. Maintains quality and productivity standards to produce a turnaround time of coding the complete patient's record within 3 days of service. 5. Participates in quality improvement activities as requested that pertain to coding. 6. Performs special or other related assignments as requested. 7. Provides professional and pleasant interaction with all customers, maintaining confidentiality. 8. Consistently follows all internal policies and procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge or the desire to learn ICD and CPT coding principles and procedures. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology. Thorough knowledge of Human Anatomy and Physiology. Ability to work effectively with the Medical staff and other hospital personnel. Ability to operate computer and various software including Microsoft Office based platforms and coding encoder. Must maintain confidential patient information and maintain integrity.
