Trauma Education (Day 1-4) with Dr Leah Giarratano Livestream on 4-5 and 11-12 May 2023 for Eastern USA and Canada or regions in the EDT timezone (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-4). The livestream is between 9am-5pm. (Other US time zones are welcome to participate including PDT 6am-2pm, MDT 7am-3pm, CDT 8am-4pm).

This highly interactive four-day livestream program is intended for mental health professionals in Eastern Canada (Ontario, Quebec) and Eastern United States (where the time zone is EDT or UTC -4) including Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia.

Registration is open to practicing graduate counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, medical practitioners, mental health nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and psychotherapists.

The content is applicable to both adult and adolescent populations. The techniques will be immediately useful and effective for your clinical practice. The full four-day program attracts 38 trauma-focused professional development hours, or the first two-days attracts 15 trauma-focused professional development hours.

There is a difference in the best-practice treatment for PTSD (Day 1-2) vs Complex PTSD (Day 3-4). This program synthesises practical approaches from several modalities that are publishing positive outcomes for these clients and presents them using actual cases that will underpin your clinical practice in traumatology. The program will explain when exposure-based interventions are indicated and appropriate, and when other therapeutic needs must be addressed first, and how to meet these needs.

Day 1-2 is dedicated to treating PTSD clients utilising a cognitive behavioural approach. Day 3-4 is dedicated to the treatment of Complex PTSD (survivors of child abuse and neglect/ developmental trauma/prolonged interpersonal trauma) utilising the phase-based approach and incorporating current experiential techniques showing promising results with this population; drawn from Emotion Focused Therapy for trauma, Metacognitive Therapy, Schema Therapy, Attachment pathology treatment, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Following Day 4 is an optional Trauma Case Study Group (included in your fee) and its purpose is to apply the skills presented in your Day 1-4 training to real cases and improve your ability to formulate a treatment plan with trauma clients.

Please note that you are required to attend Day 1-2 (Treating PTSD) before attending Day 3-4 (Treating Complex Trauma), as essential material is covered in the first workshop and not repeated in the second.
