Visual journalist/Writer plays a critical role in working closely with newsroom colleagues to tell the most important and timely stories. This is a hybrid position producing daily and long-term photos and videos, as well as reporting and writing. A strong work ethic, the ability to multi-task and an aptitude for meeting short- and long-term deadlines is required. Responsibilities include: Conceptualize daily visuals that appeal to local online audiences Report, edit and produce compelling video journalism on deadline Shoot photographs for share images, digital presentations and print Collaborate with editors and reporters to develop creative approaches to digital storytelling Write headlines, captions, summaries, social media posts and stories that are engaging and accurate Drone piloting (we can train and license) Requirements: Skills Needed: Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and team player skills are required. Leadership skills, strategic thinking and the ability to work with colleagues are essential. Visual sensibility and experience contributing to interactive and multimedia work are desired. Strong news judgment and advanced communication skills are needed. An understanding of audience trends and digital media are important as well. So is the ability to quickly edit video. Background in journalism, video and online media preferred. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus. Experience: 2 years journalism experience preferred. Familiarity with DSLR and mirrorless cameras, capturing sound and video editing. Valid driver's license. Education: College degree required. This position will be based in Kennewick, Wash., and will report to the Visuals Editor and Executive Editor. The position may involve working nights and/or weekends. Some travel may be required.
