Janitor

Job Title: Janitor Shift: 7am-3:30pm (Tuesday & Wednesday), 6am-3:30pm (Thursday & Friday), and 6am-12pm (Saturday) Job Summary The Janitor is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and organization within the machine shop and surrounding facilities. This role ensures compliance with safety standards by properly cleaning work areas, removing debris, and handling industrial waste, including metal shavings and fluids. The ideal candidate works efficiently, maintains a steady pace throughout the shift, and completes assigned tasks without unnecessary delay. Key Responsibilities • Clean and maintain shop floors, workstations, restrooms, and break areas. • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors, including removal of oil, grease, and coolant spills. • Dispose of metal shavings, scrap materials, and industrial waste safely. • Empty trash and recycling containers. • Clean machinery exteriors and surrounding areas; no operation of machines is required. • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when restocking is needed. • Follow OSHA and company safety guidelines. • Use cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, pressure washers, and industrial vacuums. • Perform general exterior facility upkeep, including occasional hedge trimming and similar grounds-maintenance tasks. • Use ladders or step ladders when required to safely perform occasional assigned facility-maintenance or cleaning duties. • Complete assigned duties in a timely and productive manner. • Assist with general facility upkeep as needed. Skills & Abilities • Ability to work independently and maintain consistent productivity with minimal supervision. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and established cleaning and safety procedures. • Ability to safely use janitorial tools and equipment, including floor scrubbers, pressure washers, industrial vacuums, hand tools, and grounds-maintenance equipment. • Ability to safely handle and use industrial cleaning chemicals in accordance with labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and company procedures. • Ability to recognize and promptly address or report unsafe conditions, spills, debris, and other housekeeping hazards. • Ability to organize work, manage time effectively, and complete assigned duties within the scheduled shift. • Attention to detail, dependability, punctuality, and consistent attendance. • Ability to work cooperatively with employees, supervisors, and other departments in an active machine-shop environment. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the work shift. • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive cleaning motions. • Ability to safely lift, carry, move, and handle cleaning supplies, trash, equipment, and materials associated with janitorial duties. • Ability to push and pull janitorial equipment, carts, trash containers, floor-cleaning equipment, and similar items. • Ability to climb and descend stairs as required throughout the facility. • Ability to safely climb, descend, and maintain balance on ladders or step ladders when performing occasional assigned duties. • Ability to reach above shoulder level and work at varying heights when required. • Ability to perform indoor and outdoor janitorial and general facility-upkeep duties for the duration of the scheduled shift. • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the position. Work Environment • Work is performed primarily in an active industrial machine-shop and manufacturing environment, with some duties performed outdoors. • Regular exposure to metal dust and shavings, oils, grease, coolants, cleaning chemicals, and industrial equipment. • Exposure to loud equipment and varying noise levels; hearing protection may be required in designated areas. • Floors and work surfaces may occasionally be wet, oily, uneven, or slippery and require appropriate caution and cleanup procedures. • Outdoor duties may involve exposure to sun, heat, cold, wind, and other weather conditions. • Work may be performed around moving machinery and production operations; employees must remain aware of surroundings and follow designated safety procedures. • Required use of applicable personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe footwear, and other PPE as assigned.
