About the Library The Kansas City Public Library system consists of a central library, nine physical branches, a digital branch, and an outreach services program serving a constituency of over 250,000 in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition to providing library services to residents, the Library also serves as a resource for the 1.7 million metropolitan residents of greater Kansas City. Job Summary This position reports to the Collection Development department under the direction of the Collection Development Supervisor. It focuses on the development and management of the youth collection within the department's vision, mission, and strategic priorities for collections. The person filling the position must demonstrate the following abilities: Apply knowledge of Collection Development theories and practices Understand and apply the vision of "one collection, many locations" Ascertain, analyze, and assess the collection needs of Library patrons and staff Determine the strengths and weaknesses of existing collections and resources Identify, evaluate, and select and deselect materials as appropriate Use diverse resources and technology Engage in regular onsite collection management at all locations Display independent decision making and take appropriate actions Communicate interdepartmentally in a knowledgeable and thoughtful manner Participate in department activities as a colleague and team member Serve as a representative and contact for the department Demonstrate knowledge of relevant trends in librarianship, publishing, and education Other Things You Should Know This is a full-time exempt position. Starting salary range DOQ starting at $45,706. Position open until filled. Job Duties and Responsibilities Understands the patron base and needs of each location as well as the system as a whole Selects appropriate materials for the branches, staff, and administration Displays knowledge of library services and programs and selects materials for them Designs and performs appropriate and efficient procedures for materials selection Identifies, collects, and analyzes applicable data Prepares reports and presentations relevant to department activities and responsibilities Manages spending within estab
