SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER - Qualified persons are invited to apply to the New Brighton Borough Civil Service Commission to take competitive examinations leading to eligibility for appointment as a school resource officer in the New Brighton Area Police Department. An application form and details of the selection process may be obtained at the Police Department, 610 Third Avenue, New Brighton, PA 15066 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Completed applications must be returned by 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2023, along with a $35.00 application fee payable to the Borough of New Brighton. During the school year, the school resource officer will be assigned to the campus of the New Brighton Area School District. The SRO will be designated patrol officer responsibilities during times when school is not in session. Residency within a 15 mile radius of New Brighton is required within 18 months of appointment. Applicants must be PA Act 120 certified prior to appointment, possess a High School diploma or equivalent, hold a PA Class C operator's license or equivalent, be a U.S. citizen, be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer, and meet all other Civil Service requirements. Prior to performing the duties of a school recourse officer, the SRO must successfully complete the Basic School Resource Officer Course of Instruction offered by the National Association of School Resource Officers or an equivalent course of instruction approved by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The physical agility test and written examination will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 9:00 AM (arrive at 8:30 AM) at the Allegheny County Police Academy, 700 West Ridge Drive (North Park), Allison Park, PA 15101. Other mandatory components of the exam are an oral examination, a background check, a post offer medical examination, and a post offer psychological examination.
