CENTRE REGION COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS Electrical Inspector JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY: The Electrical Inspector is responsible for the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity, and ensuring construction occurs in compliance with the National Electrical Code and other applicable code standards. This position has the responsibility to educate the general public, engineers, design professionals, and electrical contractors on the National Electrical Code requirements to ensure safe design and installation of electrical wiring and equipment. The Electrical Inspector is expected to be committed to the mission, vision, and values of the Centre Region Council of Governments and the CRCA. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties described below are indicative of what the Electrical Inspector may be asked to perform. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Administration • Examine electrical plans for compliance with the National Electrical Code for high-rise and mid-use residential, large and light commercial, industrial, institutional, and hazardous structures. • Prepare detailed reports on electrical code violations regarding plan reviews or field inspections. • Consult with inspectors of other disciplines for code compliance of fire, building, mechanical, plumbing, and housing codes. • Attend and participate in staff meetings. Provide input and recommendations to improve own work and the general operation, performance, and services provided by the Agency. 2. Investigation/Field Inspection • Inspect all types of wiring systems installed in residential, commercial, and industrial structures for compliance with approved plan specifications and applicable Codes. • Assist installers/designers at job-site prior to installation of wiring to recommend or to advise on proper procedure. • Inspect installation of complex electrical equipment. • Act as a consultant on electrical violations of existing structures for other code disciplines. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
