Present Position Number FP112W Role Code Title Professional/Lecturer (Staff) Position Title Assistant Director of Health Promotion Unit Mission Statement Health Promotion staff work to enhance the overall health and wellness of W&M students through evidence-based prevention efforts. By advancing a holistic and multidimensional view of wellness, we promote a culture of healthy behavior and choices that improve quality of life. Position Summary The Assistant Director for Health Promotion plays a key role in W&M's efforts to promote a healthy campus culture as a generalist dealing with a wide range of public health topics. The Assistant Director engages in a wide array of primary prevention initiatives using the socio-ecological framework for public health and best practices as defined by the American College Health Association ( ACHA ). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as an advisor, leader, mentor, and liaison to student peer health educators and advocacy groups; assisting with their recruitment, selection, retention, outreach, and advocacy efforts. Implements the National College Health Assessment, large-group orientation programming, instruction of EDUC 350 (Concepts in Collaborative Peer Health Advocacy), social marketing health campaigns, and Healthy Campus Coalition initiatives. Addresses topics congruent with integrative wellness and the eight dimensions of wellness (e.g., sleep hygiene, nutrition, stress management, AOD , healthy relationships, and self-care) through education and programming on campus. Provides campus-wide and department leadership; supervising student workers, graduate assistants, and student interns. Required Qualifications Master's degree OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Experience directly related to the position such as working in disease prevention; internship/practicum experience in Health Promotion, integrative wellness, or a related field; or experience with curriculum development, program planning/implementation, and evaluation, or comparable experience.
