The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Visual Arts department seeks applications from creative and rigorous-thinking animators/artists with expertise in 3D computer graphics and animation, as well as interactive, alternative, expanded, experimental, and/or hybrid forms of animation. Applicants must possess a terminal degree in animation or related art field, and the ability to teach a range of courses within an innovative curriculum that merges traditional and experimental approaches with new technologies and a strong conceptual, theoretical, and historical background. A successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Both the department and UMBC require and support quality faculty research and creative activities, professional work, and/or other forms of creation in their respective fields. UMBC offers many funding opportunities to extend and explore new directions in scholarly and creative practice. The department faculty's research and creative endeavors are regularly incorporated into the educational process to realize creative applications, ideas, and concepts for the students. In addition to welcoming artists with a significant record of creative achievement and academic experience this position is open to graduates with an MFA or a terminal degree in visual arts and also industry professionals who have obtained either degree and are seeking to begin an academic career. This is an Assistant Professor, tenure track, 9-month full time appointment that begins in August 2023. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Preference given to applications received by January 27, 2023. Thereafter the position will remain open until filled. Duties Teach four classes per year; Actively engage in and disseminate faculty-driven research and creative work Participate with committees at the department, college and university levels; Supervise undergraduate independent studies; Write and/or revise undergraduate curricula; Broaden links to local, regional and national communities within their area of expertise in order to promote and advance student success.
