The magic of Christmas songs - both new and familiar, to warm your heart and begin your holiday season. Under the baton of new Artistic Director Alexis Ward, and accompanied by strings, woodwinds and brass, ECAS will sing long time favorites such as "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year", "We Need a Little Christmas", and a choral telling of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem by Clement Moore, complete with illustrations on two large TV screens. A portion of the concert will remind you that Christmas is celebrated in many places around the world. Look forward to hearing one of the earliest arrangements of "Stille Nacht" (Silent Night) in Austrian, with a traditional carol from Catalonia in Spain - "Fum, Fum, Fum". Two new compositions are hauntingly gorgeous - "Twas in the Moon of Wintertime" circa 1642, is one of the oldest Canadian Christmas carols. It tells the story of the nativity through the eyes of the indigenous Huron people. "Brightest and Best" will feature a lively fiddle solo. "Hurry Now to Bethlehem" is a new spiritual. That's just to name a few. The chorus will end with "Christmas Day" the rousing medley of Christmas songs by Gustav Holst. The concert is appropriate for people from first grade to seniors. Handicapped access is available.
