El Clasificado began with its first publication by direct mail in May 1988.
Its purpose was to connect sellers of various products and services within the Hispanic community, while also providing Latinos with educational resources and lifestyle-improving items that were not widely available in Spanish.
Initially the companies did not respond in the way that was expected to the advertising in the market in Spanish, it is there, when El Clasificado faces its first. But without being discouraged, the co-founders, Martha de la Torre and Joe Badame decide to change the distribution method, moving from a direct mail circulation to an effective method of circulation in areas of high Hispanic traffic.
This change finally led to an award-winning distribution system that has allowed El Clasificado to increase its circulation from 10,000 copies per week to 510,000 per week.
The success of El Clasificado also brought new opportunities for Martha and Joe who maintain their desire to unite and connect buyers with sellers within the Hispanic community, as well as offer important content to help improve the quality of life for Latinos.
In 2007, they began organizing events for families who planned the traditional quinceañera celebration for their daughters, as well as events for Hispanic small business owners looking to find their own viability and financial success. Both events were initially planned to be held once a year in different areas throughout Southern California, however, due to the demand of attendees and advertisers, these are held several times a year. Expo Quinceanera.com and its fashion show, celebrate eight events during the year and Your Business Partner, which consists of having an exhibition and offering a breakfast.
As the company expanded, El Clasificado became EC Hispanic Media, offering companies opportunities to reach all the niches of the Hispanic community, as well as the bilingual community, both in English and in Spanish.
