PROPYLAEA

Founded in 2000, PROPYLÆA boasts a unique multidisciplinary environment for architects, artists, and craftspeople to engage in a broad array of creative endeavors. These include realized architectural projects and design competitions; architectural custom woodworking; museum collected sculpture; construction administration and design research on a domestic and international level. The vision for PROPYLÆA grew out of founder Harry Gaveras’ long history of working with his father, a superb master craftsman in his own right. Being surrounded by old-world craftsmanship and finely honed woodwork inspired Mr. Gaveras to study architecture. It is during this time at Cooper Union and Harvard University that his philosophy of a constant dialogue between the ideal of concept and the precision of method took shape.
