The University Health & Counseling Services at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a Registered Nurse. This position is full time during the academic year of mid-August to mid-May and provides no work during the summers. This position does not work weekends or holidays. JOB DETAILS: Provides professional nursing services for the student body. Primary responsibilities include providing direct and indirect patient care. Utilizing advanced assessment skills and nursing protocols the Student Health Nurse will provide direct care for minor acute illnesses, triage appointment requests and patient presentations, oversee dispensary process, and manage Allergy and STI clinics. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Unrestricted WI RN license. Current CPR. At least one year of ambulatory clinic nursing. Experience in Nursing Triage and use of protocols. Preferred Qualifications: 5 years experience as primary nurse in ambulatory primary care setting providing direct patient care. Demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion and able to work with diverse populations, including but not limited to people of all ages with various ethnic, sexual orientation, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds. Commitment to a flexible work schedule which may include some evenings. BSN. ADN accepted if actively pursuing BSN. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rule and regulations including necessary training and drills. Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Ability to communicate effectively with patients regarding care, treatment plans and follow up. Ability to remain calm in stressful, urgent situations Ability to conduct patient assessments and recommend and implement appropriate plan of care Ability to function independently and as a member of a team. Ability to follow the principles of civility. Proficiency with public speaking.
