The National Renewable Energy Laboratory ( NREL ), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL has an immediate opening for one, full-time marine data acquisition and instrumentation engineer. The candidate will be responsible for the planning, development, documentation, and deployment of professional grade instrumentation solutions for resource assessment, laboratory testing and IEC compliant field validation and testing for wave, tidal, and offshore wind energy systems. The candidate will also be responsible for assuring data quality, documentation and archiving to ensure data are valid and useful for the broader community; as well as, processing data in Matlab/Python and preparing reports for clients and DOE. The candidate must have hands on experience with National Instruments data acquisition systems and be an expert in, LabVIEW/ Matlab/Python programming, signal conditioning, remote sensing, and robust data acquisition system development and use. The candidate will need to travel where they will lead installation, deployment, maintenance and recovery of instrumentation systems, with some of that time at sea. At NREL, safety is the highest priority and the successful candidate is expected to maintain safety training and adhere to NREL practices and policies. At sea experience and hands-on experience configuring and using marine instrumentation is helpful. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Lead the development, testing, and documentation of National Instrument cRIO based data acquisition systems and associated hardware for performance, motion, loads, noise, and other measurements for marine energy and offshore wind systems. This includes the development of integrated supporting hardware for power management and data telemetry. Assist in the setup, installation, operation, and recovery of data acquisition systems, sensors and instruments at remote locations for field and laboratory measurement of marine energy and offshore wind systems. Develop data transmission, archiving, processing, QA, and visualization codes in LabVIEW, Matlab, and Python that integrate with the
