Gannett and the USA TODAY NETWORK is looking for an Executive Editor to lead the Lakeland Ledger team in its coverage of Imperial Polk County, a community so-named because it is 800 square miles larger than Rhode Island. The Ledger has a long history of journalistic excellence, producing many talented journalists. We are looking for a hard-charging leader with top-notch journalistic skills, a love for the watchdog role of the press and an ability to network and engage with a dynamic community in a fast-growing county. The Ledger covers a metro area of more than 700,000 from Lakeland. The county seat is Bartow, roughly centered on Polks huge phosphate industry. Lakeland and Polk County has a geography featuring thousands of lakes, hence the name. Polk is the home to one public university, one state college and four private universities. Publix Super Markets, one of the largest and fastest-growing grocery chains, is headquartered in the community. The community is the spring training site of the Detroit Tigers and the Legoland amusement park.
