Permit Technician Salary $58,587.60 - $73,653.96 Annually Location Visalia, CA Job Type Regular Full-Time Department Community Development Job Number 01754 Closing 10/6/2022 5:00 PM Pacific Description The City of Visalia is recruiting for Permit Technician. THE DIVISION The City of Visalia Building Safety Division provides support to the City of Visalia Community Development Department by administering building permit programs for the public, the building industry, and the development community. The Division leads the department in building permit intake, plan review, issuance, and inspection of all building permits for the City of Visalia. Examples of Duties THE POSITION The City of Visalia is recruiting for one Permit Technician. The selected Technician will provide service to the public in areas such as basic planning information, assisting in the application process for building permits and other developmental processes, assists in processing construction plans for commercial and residential projects, reviews plans for the purposes of establishing valuation and computing plan check and various other fees; issue building permits "over the counter" for less complex structures such as patios, fences, pools and signs; interprets codes for building contractors, architects, engineers, builders and general public. In addition, the Technician will be required to coordinate and work collaboratively with other departments and divisions. Qualifications / Requirements THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, knowledge of various basic planning and plans examining skills; possess excellent judgment, integrity, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. The ideal candidate will have skill in applying and learning computer applications. Possession of ICC Certification as Permit Technician is desirable. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying.
