The Yard Goat Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers and containers around the warehouse yard, loading docks, and staging areas. This role is crucial to maintaining an organized and smooth flow of goods within the facility, ensuring timely loading and unloading of freight.
Key Responsibilities:
Trailer Movement: Operate a yard goat truck to transport trailers and containers between loading docks, staging areas, and parking spots within the yard.
Yard Organization: Assist in maintaining an orderly and efficient yard by positioning trailers as needed and organizing equipment.
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to ensure a safe working environment.
Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections: Perform daily inspections of the yard goat truck and trailers to ensure they are in safe operating condition; report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
Communication: Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse staff, and other drivers to ensure efficient trailer movement and placement.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, yard activities, and any incidents or accidents that occur.
Support Operations: Assist in other warehouse or yard activities as needed, including loading/unloading trailers, securing loads, and minor maintenance tasks.
Qualifications:
Experience: Previous experience as a Yard Goat Driver, Yard Jockey, or similar role is required.
Licensing: Valid driver’s license; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be preferred or required based on the facility's needs.
Skills: Strong driving skills with the ability to maneuver trailers in tight spaces; familiarity with yard operations and safety practices.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing in and out of trucks, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Availability: Flexibility to work different shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
